My obsession with sewing has led me to a new place – pattern drafting. I’ve become so interested in achieving the perfect fit attainable only through sewing (or having a personal tailor) that I enrolled in Patternmaking Basics: The Bodice Sloper with Suzy Furrer
The end result of the class will be a bodice sloper adaptable for many uses. Suzy Furrer a most competent, serious, professional and well-spoken instructor explains how fashion designers work from a single sloper to create dozens of designs.
I often attempt to customize a purchased pattern without understanding how ONE little change affects the entire fit. Additionally, while I’ve made great strides in fitting myself, fitting my back is still an issue that I am determined to tackle!
I have absolutely nothing to show you since I am busy trying to absorb this fine instructor’s knowledge!
I don’t know where the class will lead me, but isn’t that true of many endeavors? Maybe I will develop a pattern or maybe I’ll simply acquire the knowledge to easily fit my back with purchased patterns.

In the meantime I received an awesome book from Laurence King Publishing to be released in April, entitled Sewing for Fashion Designers by Anette Fischer.
The comprehensive book is essential for anyone wanting to learn about fashion construction. Illustrated with fashion images that demonstrate techniques used by top designers, Sewing for Fashion Designers teaches all of the professional sewing methods one needs ranging from sewing equipment, pattern layout, fabric composition, stitches, seams, seam finishes, garment construction, and fabric-specific techniques needed to design with materials from lace to neoprene.
It is simply a fantastic 300+ page book, loaded with over 1000 color photographs along with instructions on every sewing technique imaginable.
As always, it is my personal policy to share these wonderful books I receive with my cherished readers in a giveaway.
Simply leave a comment to be entered into the giveaway. The lucky winner will be announced on TUESDAY, MARCH 17.
Now…… back to the classroom and good luck to all giveaway contestants!
Until soon
